Last week President Obama decided to send 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan with hopes that the U.S. can surge now and withdraw by around 2011.
The New York Times has an interesting article on How Obama made the decision. I have to admit that after reading the article I am more accepting of the decision to put more troops in Afghanistan. At least now we have an idea of the information and assumptions that Obama had in making the decision.
What do you think of his in-depth decision-making process? After reading the article, did it change your opinion of his decision?

I may write for The Asian Conservative but I AM a male in the 18-34 demographic. Yes, fart jokes and sexual innuendo entertain me. That is why I was particularly delighted when news outlets called Tax day protesters “teabaggers.” Of course Fox News has an article about how immature the other cable news networks are for using the term “teabagging” and “teabaggers.”
Sure, it’s not professional or mature but I find the whole situation thoroughly entertaining.

Yesterday President Obama announced a plan to impose a $500,000 maximum salary cap for executives or CEOs of companies taking US bailout money.
Many people, especially those on Wall Street cried foul because it reeks of socialism, or at least non-capitalistic behavior.
Of course on the other hand, the Government wouldn’t have had to do this if the idiots hadn’t given themselves multi-million dollar bonuses despite posting multi-billion dollar losses (or going bankrupt or otherwise). These overpaid executives unfortunately are the face of current modern politicians: mega-wealthy predominantly white males that get away with everything.
The folly of these executives is a clear case why the GOP should “re-brand” itself.

I noticed an Asian man standing behind Barack Obama and Family a few times on TV. Mostly while President Obama watched the never-ending Inaugural Parade from his viewing booth.
It definitely was not Department of Energy head Steven Chu nor do I think it was VA head Eric Shinseki because this guy looks younger. Anyway, if he’s part of Obama’s administration that’s a good sign: Asians, whether conservative or liberal, are getting a foothold in U.S. Politics

Who is this guy? Is he a politician?

Eric Shinseki head of Dept of VA
Also: I’m not a big poetry fan but did anyone else think that the Poet (Elizabeth Alexander) at the end was weak? Robert Frost or Maya Angelou she is not.

The Inaugural process always gives me goose bumps and President Obama’s is no exception. As a matter of fact, being a history buff and after hearing his address I can honestly say hands down it is the most defining and uplifting speech any President has given at his Inauguration. It was idealistic, uplifting, pragmatic, and delivered in only a way a great orator like Obama can deliver.
Let’s also not forget the crowd. There was a phenomenal turnout, possibly the largest ever and one that pales in comparison to that of President George W. Bush’s.
“Why am I hailing Obama”, you may be wondering. I haven’t converted to the left, nor have I began to side with President Obama’s proposed legislation’s, nor have I defected from the right in what some say is the darkest hour of the GOP. Simply put, this is a lesson in leadership, political theatrics, motivational speech, and unconventional campaigning that Republicans must learn from. We have 4 years (possibly 8 years) to redefine our party and set coarse for a new GOP, a better GOP, and most of all an uplifting GOP. Let’s put our minds together and set that coarse.

While we’re a bit late in reporting this, having just discovered that untested Republican opponent - Anh “Joseph” Cao, unseated nine-term Democrat U.S. Representative William Jefferson brings a promise and a smile to us here at the Asian Conservative. We’re looking forward to following Representative Cao and what the future may hold.
